The Gift It Onward Story. . .
My mom taught me to sew on an old Singer sewing machine since I could walk and that has been our hobby ever since. Once
I graduated college from Illinois Wesleyan in May of 2000, all my friends and family members started having babies and I
always had to show up to their baby showers with a personalized burp cloth.
Every time my friends saw my creations they kept encouraging me that I needed to do this for more than just my friends, and I
always swept that idea aside. Until one day in December 2008 my friend Liz emailed me a request to stitch burp cloths for 8
of her expecting friends. At that point I figured if I’m going to give this a good college try, now was my time. Plus, I was laid off
from the job I had had since I graduated college (an 8 ½ year employee), right when my son, Gavin, was turning 1, so this has
become a way to supplement the loss of my job since I stay at home with him now. He excitedly brings each and every order
to the post office with me and it’s his big job to put the packages in the big bin at the post office. And we just had a baby girl,
Anna, in December 2009, so we have another little tester of my products and perhaps someone to shortly add to the payroll !
So I bounced 101 name ideas off my husband (you should have heard some of the silly names we came up with for burp
cloths), and we decided ‘Gift It Onward’ was it! Inspired by the movie “Pay It Forward”. Then on December 27, 2008, I sat
down at my computer to try to enter the whole web site world—so everything you see on my site I’ve pieced together in my
very own computer-challenged way. So please don’t rate your expectation of my work based on my web site creation skills!
I hope you can personally see the pride that goes into my work. Whether this is a gift for yourself or a friend or family
member, I hope every time you pull a product of mine out of your diaper bag, you’re always glad you have it. And if you are,
then Gift It Onward! Tag. . .someone else is it!!!
